Paediatric Ophthalmology is involved in studying the maturation and development process of the visual function, as well as the congenital defects that can directly or indirectly affect vision. In this department, visual disturbances caused by systematic diseases that can cause ophthalmologic abnormalities are also treated.

The visual function during childhood is constant evolving and any abnormality, like refraction defects, strabismus or media opacity, may interfere with normal development causing permanent damage.
